Alex Drost

I help professional service firms turn strategy into something that actually happens.

I'm Alex Drost — an advisor, speaker, and CPA based in Detroit. I spend most of my time with middle-market professional service firms, working on the gap between a plan on paper and a plan that gets executed. I also host a podcast, read constantly, and build things for the fun of it.

What I do

Advising

I work with middle-market professional service firms, usually on the unglamorous part — the stretch after everyone has agreed to the strategy and before anything has changed. Sequencing, ownership, incentives, and the honest conversation about capacity.

Speaking

I talk to firm leaders and professional audiences about the same things I advise on: growth, business development, and why execution stalls. Tell me the room and what you want people to leave with, and I'll tell you whether I'm the right fit.

Writing

I built The Business of Accounting, an interactive field guide to how CPA firms actually make money, who decides what, and where the margin really comes from.

I read constantly and keep track of all of it. A few of the books that stuck — and why.
